Break the Silence on False Domestic Abuse Claims

Have You Been Falsely Accused of Domestic Abuse? Join Us!

More and more men across the UK are falling victim to false allegations of domestic abuse. Such accusations—even if completely unfounded—can ruin personal, professional, and family life, lead to the loss of employment, contact with children, and cause lasting psychological harm. Unfortunately, the legal system and state institutions all too often fail those who have been wrongly accused: they refuse support, fail to conduct proper investigations against those making false claims, and leave the actual victim without help or a voice.

You are not alone.

We are building a community of people who have experienced this kind of injustice. Together, we want to:

  • fight for equality before the law,
  • demand systemic change and real support for victims of false allegations,
  • build a database of cases that will form the basis for a future petition and dialogue with the authorities.

Your opinion matters!

Below you will find a draft version of our petition. If you have any comments, suggestions, or your own proposals for its content, please get in touch with us. We want the final version of the petition to be as closely tailored as possible to the real needs and expectations of those affected by this problem.

Petition for the Protection of Men Falsely Accused of Domestic Abuse

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to urgently establish protective mechanisms for men who have been falsely accused of domestic abuse—particularly those who received no adequate support from the police and in whose cases no investigation was conducted against the accuser.

Why this is a pressing issue

  • Lack of support for falsely accused men
Men wrongly accused frequently face arrest despite a lack of evidence, resulting in severe reputational, professional, financial, and familial damage.
  • No effective investigations against accusers
In practice, the police often stop at accepting the report and do not pursue investigations against individuals who knowingly submit false allegations. There is no systematic mechanism to assess such abuse of the system or compel police to examine the credibility of the accuser.
  • The case of Elliot Kebbie
Former Royal Marine Elliot Kebbie was defamed by West Yorkshire Police in an email containing unfounded claims of abusive behaviour, sent without speaking to him or bringing charges. He was placed on bail for 16 months, during which he lost his military career and suffered personal and financial harm. The High Court awarded him £67,500 in libel and privacy damages and a further £30,000 for false imprisonment, and West Yorkshire Police issued a formal apology. • Psychological impact of false accusations
Systematic review evidence from King’s College London indicates that being wrongfully accused causes profound and lasting psychological harm, including identity loss, stigma, anxiety, depression, and trauma—even after exoneration. Source: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7838333/

Our demands

  1. Early credibility assessment of all domestic abuse claims
Introduce mandatory preliminary assessments to gauge the credibility of allegations. Cases found to be false must trigger investigations against the accuser for offences such as wasting police time or perverting the course of justice, following CPS guidelines.
  2. Immediate legal and psychological support for accused men
Ensure access to free legal advice and counselling as soon as a person is falsely accused to protect their rights and wellbeing.
  3. Automatic financial and reputational compensation
Implement a statutory framework offering automatic compensation for unjust arrests, lost income, mental harm, and reputational damage once false allegations are confirmed.
  4. Compulsory training for police and CPS staff
Train all relevant personnel to recognise signs of false allegations, collect evidence, and interview accusers thoroughly before taking statements or making determinations.
  5. Transparency through public reporting
Require annual publication of statistics detailing the number of false domestic abuse allegations, subsequent investigations against accusers, and compensation paid to the exonerated.

We demand that:

  • The Home Office, Crown Prosecution Service, and all UK police forces adopt the above measures.
  • Full transparency and public dissemination of relevant data are established.
  • A national awareness campaign be launched to inform the public that false allegations occur, are harmful, and cannot be made without consequence.

Please sign this petition if you believe in justice, dignity, and protection for every citizen—regardless of gender.
